Why should you join a Trade Union?

These days we don't think much about sick pay, holidays, maternity leave, redundancy protection and all the panoply of workers' legal protection.  Yet had it not been for the work of Trade Unions, many of those rights would be nonexistent or significantly reduced, like in some parts of the US economy, for example.  Joining a trade union makes sense if you want to have your rights safeguarded and enhanced.  Remember, your employer can quickly take away what isn't enshrined in law.

Why join a Union (TUC)

Most Unions like Prospect offer more than employment rights but additional benefits such as legal advice, pension advice and much more.

Why Prospect

Prospect represents 150,000 workers in many professional sectors from archaeologists, telecom engineers, air traffic controllers, tech workers, public servants, energy experts, museum curators, environment specialists, nuclear scientists, freelancers, education professionals, highway workers, meteorologists and so many more.

We work tirelessly to represent the interests of our members and actively campaign to protect the future of public workers.

Joining fees are based on your annual income, and at UKRI we have local sections in almost every area of the organisation.  Your Reps are your first port of call for any advice or concern you may have.  Very often, Rep support can prevent a concern from escalating into more radical action.
