GENERAL NOTES ON THE RETIRED MEMBERS GROUP

The RMG acts as a focal point for Retired Members to gain help, support & advice from Prospect on issues of concern to them. It also campaigns for improvement in the benefits available to Prospect Members. Retired Members have full access to benefits & services except death benefit & employment-related advice/representation. There are over 22,000 Retired Members divided up into roughly 20 areas.

Each area sends a representative to serve on the RMG National Committee. That in turn sends 12 delegates to the Prospect National Conference. These delegates participate fully, except on the minority of motions which require a card vote.  An RMG card vote limited in size & scope has been approved for 2016 onwards.

To join the RMG, a member needs to have been a working member up to retirement, and (barring exceptional circumstances) needs to apply for retired membership within 6 months of retirement. Retired Members who subsequently take up employment are strongly advised to contact the Prospect membership department about becoming a working member for the duration of that employment.
