DfE

The Department for Education (DfE) is responsible for education and children’s services in England. This means making policy for all types of public and private schools, learning and teaching methods, performance assessment, special educational needs, early learning and child development, childcare and education for 16 to 19 year olds. Also registering schools and gathering and keeping statistics on schools and educational performance.

The Department is a ministerial department with 3 executive agencies:

  • Education Funding Agency (EFA)
  • Standards and Testing Agency (STA)
  • National College for Teaching and Leadership (NCTL)

Prospect is one of the trade unions formally recognised by the Department and we represent a range of specialist and professional staff including Information Officers, Librarians, Research Officers, Statistical Officers, Scientific Officers, SPTOs, Auditors, Accountants, Training Advisors and Economic Assistants.  We represent members on all matters including pay, grading and terms and conditions as well as providing individual representation when necessary.
