Prospect agrees inflation-beating Holyrood pay deal

Prospect union members in the Scottish Parliament have unanimously accepted a two-year above-inflation pay award, worth at least 2% per annum.

The award reflects the professionalism and hard work of staff as well as the greater scope for negotiating public pay north of the border.

The 2016-18 award increases pay for those on the maximum of their pay scale by 2% in each year and provides an increase of 1% in addition to progression, which will be worth at least 4.5%, to those below their maximum.

An increase in public holidays and commitments to the Scottish Living Wage are also included in the comprehensive pay agreement – as well as a commitment to no compulsory redundancies for the two-year period it covers.

Prospect negotiator David Avery said: “The parliament has recognised the hard work of its staff throughout the independence referendum, Smith Commission and now the Scotland bill and awarded them a fair pay deal.

“This has been possible because the Holyrood parliament is not subject to public pay constraints set by either Scottish or UK ministers and therefore meaningful negotiations with the trade unions have been able to take place.”

Prospect represents specialist staff within the parliament including researchers, clerks and official reporters.
