The partnership will take on the contract to manage the 10 Magnox sites at: Chapelcross; Hunterston A; Trawsfynydd; Wylfa; Oldbury; Berkeley; Bradwell; Dungeness A; Hinkley Point A; and Sizewell A, as well as the two RSRL sites at Harwell and Winfrith.
Commenting on the announcement, Prospect National Secretary Gill Wood said: “This competition was vitally important to over 2,000 Prospect members and their families in the local communities.
“Throughout the process the union stressed that decommissioning should not just be about cleaning up the civil nuclear legacy on the cheapest possible terms, but about putting measures in place to offset the economic and social impact on communities as decommissioning job opportunities reduce.
“These communities have done so much to support the industry over the past 50 years. We are pleased that the Cavendish Fluor Partnership have not shied away from that and included specific commitments on local investment in their winning bid.”
In addition, Wood said the union had remained in regular dialogue with all the bidders during the competition process to protect and promote the long-term interests of the union’s members in Magnox and RSRL.
“We will be meeting Cavendish Fluor at the earliest opportunity to discuss their plans for the business and how they intend to meet the growing skills challenge facing the industry.”
