Prospect member from Met Office calls for more employee representation on public sector boards at TUC

Gordon Hutchinson a Prospect members from the Met Office took to the platform at the TUC to support a motion calling for more public sector boards to include proper trade union representation on behalf of employees.

Gordon highlighted that Prospect has already won representation for Prospect on the Met Office board. He said:

“We can provide a very good example and evidence, that this form of additional interaction between an organisations democratically elected employees representatives, us their trade unions and its governance board is beneficial to all.”

He added:

“We the staff have a very large professional investment in the continued success of the Met Office and as a branch that includes a substantial number of members with doctorates, degrees and quite a few professorships as well as world class technical experts. We are a useful skilled consultancy resource for the executive and have valid opinions.”

The motion, originally put forward by the FDA, was passed with the support of Prospect and other unions.
