Talks to avert HIAL strike

Prospect resumes talks with HIAL in a bid to avert strike action

Responding to reports today (Monday) that regional airport operator Highlands and Islands Airports Ltd (HIAL) is seeking to return to the negotiating table to discuss unequal employment conditions among its security workers, Prospect national secretary Alan Denney said: “The request to resume discussions in a bid to resolve this pay dispute is a very welcome surprise.

“Although I have not yet received their written request to reopen talks, I contacted Mr Lyon as soon as I heard there was an opportunity to resolve this via negotiation. I will be returning early from leave to meet HIAL management on Wednesday morning.

“Our members have always seen strike action as the option of last resort and we welcome any chance to settle this dispute.”

Prospect represents more than 120 of the 160 workers employed by HIAL’s security company, AMSL across eleven Scottish airports including Dundee, Inverness, Stornoway and Sumburgh.

In the six years since HIAL brought security provision in house, management has failed to agree equal pay, holidays, and sick pay for AMSL’s airport security workers.
