Dust off your boots for 26 March demonstration

Prospect is encouraging members affected by the cuts in both the public and private sectors to join the TUC march and rally on Saturday 26 March, under the theme of ‘March for the Alternative - Jobs, Growth, Justice',

The event is not only a protest against the scale and severity of the coalition government's cuts to public sector funding, but seeks to highlight the impact that these cuts will have on public services and the private sector.

On the day, supporters are asked to assemble on the Embankment in central London at 11am, with the march itself beginning at 12pm.

The march will then follow a route along the Embankment and Whitehall, ending in Hyde Park for a rally until 4.30pm. Full details can be found on the dedicated TUC website.

Prospect will circulate members with the final assembly arrangements in the next few days.

The union has already authorised the cost of coaches from a number of branches and will continue to meet such costs where enough members make it a viable option. Branches should make requests to Maralyn Fleetwood by emailing [email protected].

Prospect is also encouraging members to use transport arranged by other TUC-affiliated unions. These places are advertised on the dedicated TUC website and on www.falseeconomy.org.uk, which has details of a seat brokering service. Again, reasonable travel costs will be reimbursed – contact Maralyn Fleetwood with any queries.

Prospect general secretary Paul Noon said: "The TUC march and rally will be an important event to publicise the case for an economic alternative to the government's plans, which affect all our members as users of public services, as well as employees in both the public and private sectors.

"I welcome the enthusiasm that many Prospect members have already shown, and encourage other branches to publicise this event to their members so that we can help to make the day a success and ensure that Prospect has a visible presence."

Members planning to attend are asked to email [email protected] so that Prospect has an indication of numbers attending on the day.

Prospect has produced its own ‘Dust off your boots' poster for use on workplace noticeboards. You can download it from here.

The TUC also has downloadable posters and flyers on its dedicated march website.
