Prospect Planning Inspectorate
Welcome to the Prospect PINS Branch
Prospect is a politically independent trade union with over 140k members across the public and private sectors.
This page has been created by your colleagues in PINS to introduce ourselves and explain how membership makes a difference to Planning Inspectors and Appeals Planning Officers.
Your Branch committee
The committee at PINS is legally recognised by the employer to make representations on behalf of members collectively (over pay, hours, pensions, working arrangements etc…) and individually, such as defending a member in difficulty over performance issues, ill-health and disciplinary matters.
Your colleagues value the work of Prospect, which is why most Inspectors and Appeals Planning Officers are members.
Committee members and their contact details can be found on the PINS Intranet (here).
Recent work
We use our collective voice to challenge decisions where necessary and influence outcomes. Recently our members have helped us;
- reduce programmes of work for Inspectors from four to three per week to improve workload and quality of working life.
- challenge the inappropriate use of JEGS to evaluate the Inspector role. It is now raised as a formal dispute.
- contribute to the debate on the Future Operating Model for Events, Future Ways of Working, the Printing Protocol, H&S and Above Band Working.
Current work
Amongst other issues addressed on the instruction of our members, the Committee are currently negotiating the Annual Pay Remit (locally and nationally). Members and the Committee are seeking the best possible outcome at a time of unprecedented rises in the cost of living. This includes actively engaging with PINS for credible pay progression for members.
Challenging Government policy
https://prospect.org.uk/serving-our-society/
The union is not affiliated to any political party and represents more public sector specialists than any other trade union (including members at DeFRA, the Met Office, MoD, Environment Agency). We use this position to meet with, present member evidence to and influence the Cabinet Office on the critical issues of pay, reward, retention and workload. PINS Branch forms part of the collective lobbying to change this with the highest level decision-makers.
Discounts and services
Prospect’s membership of 140k help the union negotiate various discounted individual services. These include free will-writing, financial, legal and pension advice, plus numerous consumer offers to save money.
How can I contribute and what does it cost?
The best way to help us achieve improvements at work is to join the majority of your colleagues who are members and become a member. Subscriptions to fund the working of the union (see link above) are banded according to salary, and many members report that our discounts and services can help reduce, or even cover, these completely.
The views expressed on this site are not necessarily the views of Prospect nationally.
