Public Accounts Committee has grave concerns about how Brexit is being handled by the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy

Responding the Public Accounts Committee's 'grave concerns' about how the Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy is handling Brexit, deputy general secretary Garry Graham said:

“Prospect, like the Public Accounts Committee, has been calling for greater transparency, detail and urgency in the way government is working to deliver Brexit.

“As a leading civil service union we are all too aware of the pressure that civil servants are under because of cuts and an increased workload. Prospect has consistently warned of the impact of cuts to recruit and retain skilled members of staff with the expertise to deliver Brexit.

“Euratom and the Office for Nuclear Regulation are specific examples which encapsulate the issues raised in the PAC report. The Brexit implications for each of these organisations demand the need for more funding, staffing and new formalised regulatory systems. However, the government is failing to deliver on each of these fronts.

“It’s time for the government to face up to the reality of Brexit and make sure it has the right priorities and resources to deliver what it has promised the country.”
