As well as meeting Dounreay members and management, Clancy will also meet local community representatives in Thurso on Wednesday August 28, to find out about the initiatives already underway to retain high quality jobs for Caithness after the Dounreay site restoration programme is completed. Prospect has represented Dounreay workers since the plant was first established in the 1950s.

Clancy said the skills and capabilities developed by the workforce must not be wasted when the decommissioning programme comes to an end. “I am looking forward to discovering the range of work our members undertake in this part of the country. Prospect intends to support members into the future to ensure a long-term economic future for Caithness.

“We will use our influence in all political arenas to put forward the case for investment in infrastructure and in high quality jobs for the area.”

Clancy will also meet Prospect members who work at Wick Airport as he travels back to London on Friday.

Prospect negotiator Alan Denney said: “It’s important for the union to listen to its members, especially in areas where their jobs play a significant role in the health of the local economy.”

Prospect represents hundreds of members working across the Highland and Islands: in airports, Scottish government and in the agriculture, environment and heritage sectors.
