Further guidance on school transport for local authorities, technical guidance on attendance and a consultation on proposed adaptations to exams are expected to follow.

Procedures in the event of a local outbreak are also set to be shared.

Prospect ECSG has been part of a coalition with other education unions meeting with Gavin Williamson, the education secretary, through the pandemic to discuss how schools can safely reopen.

Steve Thomas, Prospect national secretary, commented that all the guidance, and how robust the measures are, would be "critical not only in terms of public health but also for building confidence."
