Referendum report published

Prospect launches independence referendum report

Prospect, the union for 11,000 professionals and specialists in Scotland, has today (Tuesday) published its report for members on the impact of the independence referendum on their working lives. The report maintains Prospect’s political neutrality and does not advise members which way to vote.

The union’s Scotland committee has followed the Independence Referendum debate since July 2012 and the ‘Our Voice – Our Future’ report is the culmination of that work.

In January the union created a website forum to provide advice, information and guidance on the referendum for members and for those who wanted to join the referendum debate.

The union also set up panels to cover its main areas of membership across Scotland: aviation; defence; education; energy; environment; government; health and safety; heritage; science and telecommunications. The panels drew up questions for the two campaigns to answer, based on the issues of most concern to members in the different sectors.

National Secretary Anne Douglas said: “The report pack is the culmination of the work of interested and committed individuals who served on the working groups. We hope it will be useful to members and the wider public, and that it helps to inform which way they vote on 18 September.”

“It also sends the message to members and potential members that whatever the outcome of the referendum Prospect is there for them.”

Prospect is not affiliated to any political party. It represents thousands of members working across Scotland: in the Ministry of Defence and the private sector defence industry; in airports through Highlands and Islands Ltd; Scottish Government; in the agriculture, environment, communication and heritage sectors and the nuclear and conventional energy sector.
