Alan Leighton’s response to The Independent Article on possible Museum closures

 Alan Leighton, Prospect National Secretary, has written to The Independent newspaper in regards to their article published on 5 June on the possible closure of one of the Science Museum Group’s museums in the north of England.



Closures and reintroducing charging to are being considered as part of the response to the continuing cuts in grant in aid from the Government.  

Prospect currently represents over 240 members who work in Science Museum Group museums. They have already faced four years of pay freezes, redundancies and restructures due to the current austerity programmes being forced on to the heritage sector.
