Museum staff to hold mad hatter’s tea party

Staff at the Science Museum will be hosting a mad hatter’s tea party outside the entrance on Exhibition Road, London on 20 February as part of their ongoing industrial action over the deferred implementation of their 2003 pay and grading deal.

Members of the Prospect union will serve tea and jam tarts dressed as characters from Alice in Wonderland between noon and 2pm. The mad hatter’s tea party theme reflects the feeling among the staff that the way they have been treated by management is madness.

The event marks the end of the first week of industrial action at the museum which saw staff working to agreed hours and a ban on unpaid overtime, on which the management depend heavily to keep functioning.
