Unions and AGS Airports make pensions breakthrough at conciliation service

Prospect and Unite have welcomed a new offer from AGS Airports on the company’s defined benefit pension scheme.

The unions and the company worked with ACAS, the conciliation service, to break the deadlock after the company signalled its intention to close the defined benefit pension scheme to future accrual for existing members.

As a result of the talks, the trades unions are pursuing a proposed negotiated settlement to the dispute. This also includes proposals on pay arrangements for Glasgow and Southampton airports for 2016.

Prospect negotiator David Avery said: “While the new offer is a reduction in member benefits compared to the current scheme, it is a massive improvement on the company’s previous offer and represents a good value benefit for members.

“Prospect was committed to achieving a negotiated settlement which protects our members’ benefits, saves the company £3.5m a year and puts the pension scheme on a sustainable footing.

“We will be balloting our members and hope that they will accept the new offer.”

AGS Airports is a partnership between Ferrovial and Macquarie Infrastructure and Real Assets. It was established in 2014 to acquire Aberdeen, Glasgow and Southampton airports.
