The National Customer Contact Centre in Rotherham is the first point of contact for the public.
The National Customer Contact Centre takes all general enquiries for the Environment Agency.
Why is this important?
Staff at the centre have extensive knowledge of all the agency’s activities. The centre completes all simple exemptions, waste carrier registrations, national requests, fishing licences and boat registrations. The centre also deals with all email requests coming in from the general public.
Where the cuts may fall
The scale of the cuts is unknown, but appear inevitable since much of this is seen as “back office”. At best customers will see a reduced standard of service. At worst, there is the risk of losing key data and losing an understanding of how human intervention with key parts of the environment is functioning.
