Office for National Statistics
Prospect is the union that represents interviewers and specialists in the Office for National Statistics. ONS, based in Newport, South Wales, is responsible for the collection, compilation, analysis and dissemination of a range of economic, social and demographic statistics relating to the United Kingdom that serve the public good and meet UK legal obligations (both domestic and international). The largest group of Prospect members is field interviewers who are home based and collect data from householders in a defined local geographical area. The other two groups of interviewers are those based in Telephone Operations in Titchfield in Hampshire and the International Passenger Survey, who collect information from travellers at ports and airports in conjunction with the National Statistician.
Our specialist members consist of research officers, librarians and methodologists providing statistical leadership and methodological advice for the benefit of UK official statistics and the development and maintenance of definitions, methodologies, and classifications of statistics.
