Branch F192: British Museum

British Museum

The British Museum, located in central London, is considered to be one of the finest in the World dedicated to the history of art and culture. It holds some eight million items in its collections, including the Elgin Marbles and the Rosseta Stone. It's galleries cover all areas and periods of human art and culture taking in Egyptian, Roman, Asian and South American cultures. The Museum has a number of permanent galleries as well as holding a number of specialist exhibitions throughout the year. The Museum is also a centre for learning and research, both for school visits and academic study.

Prospect is a recognised trade union for collective bargaining purposes and represents members right across the Museum including those involved in Conservation, Curation and Collection Care, as well as Researchers and Design staff. We negotiate on all matters affecting Prospect members including pay, re-organisations and terms and conditions as well as providing individual representation when required.

We have an active branch committee made up of Representatives from various sections in the Museum, but always welcome new Representatives and ideas, so if you would like to get more involved in the work of your union we would love to hear from you. Contact us via
