The British Library is one of the largest holding libraries in the world with a collection of over a 150 million items in its collections, and grows at some 3 millions items per year. It holds manuscripts, maps, newspapers books, drawings and music scores as well as an extensive sound archive. The Library serves the business and industry communities as well as being a centre for academic study for both students and post graduate study, either by use of the numerous reading rooms, its digital collections or by copies being ordered by individuals. The Library consists of two main sites, in St Pancras, London and at Boston Spa in Yorkshire.
Prospect is one of the formally recognised trade unions representing members across the Library including Curators, Conservators, Librarians, Researchers, Cataloguers and those involved in Learning, Education and Publication production. We negotiate on behalf of members on a wide range of issues including pay and grading and all terms and conditions, as well as providing individual representation and advice when necessary.
There are local Prospect representatives at each site, as well as a national branch executive dealing with these matters. If you would like to get involved and join in that important work too, we would love to hear from you. Contact us via firstname.lastname@example.org
