11.00 – 12.00: Professor Mick Waters - Applying leverage on the school system
In order to 'improve quality and raise standards' in schools, governments pull on various levers, some resource driven and some ideological.
This short session will examine the impact of some types of leverage of people in different places within the education system: civil servants, local government, commercial organsiations, head teachers, teachers...and pupils.

13.00 – 14.00: Laurence Findlay, Director of Education, Aberdeenshire Council - ‘An inter-authority collaborative approach to school improvement in Scotland’
The Scottish Government has established regional improvement collaboratives to provide educational improvement support for headteachers, teachers and practitioners through dedicated teams of professionals.
These teams will draw on Education Scotland staff, local authority staff and others to facilitate collaborative working across the region, including sharing best practice, supporting collaborative networks and pursuing partnership approaches.
14.15 – 15.15 Stewart Mott, Prospect Pension Officer - What’s going on with Public Sector Pensions
Public Sector Pensions live in a paradoxical world of falling costs for the ‘Cost Cap Mechanism’ and increasing costs for the setting of employer contributions. This session will aim to explain what’s going on and allow opportunity for a Q&A on both the Teachers and Local Government Schemes.

The event will provide opportunity to network with other professionals and practitioners in the field, and our team of full-time officers will also be in attendance and available throughout the day. A light lunch and refreshments will be provided.
