Responding to the government’s plans to introduce an immigration bill which will “end the EU’s rules on free movement of EU nationals in the UK”, Prospect deputy general secretary Sue Ferns said:

“The government should think very carefully about the implications of its proposals on freedom of movement for science, technology and engineering skills.

“Prospect union’s own research demonstrates the importance to the UK of employing STEM experts from other EU countries.

“These skills are essential for the British economy and for maintaining our capacity and international reputation for research excellence.

“We fail to see how this bill will allow the UK to attact the brightest and the best.”
