Backing for Serco sale

Prospect welcomes proposed Serco Services sale to AMEC

Reacting to the news that AMEC plc has registered an interest in Serco's Technical Consulting Services business, Prospect said the combined skills of two leading energy service providers would create a world leading nuclear consultancy service.

General Secretary Designate Mike Clancy said: "Both organisations have well-earned reputations in the nuclear industry and the combined forces of the two highly-skilled workforces will provide opportunities for growth that will help ensure AMEC's place as a leading global energy services company.

But, he said, until more details about the bid emerged, concerns remained about the staff in scope for transfer and whether the deal would result in any job losses in either organisation.

"Until we know more about the proposals the union's main concern will be to build on the constructive relationships it has with both employers while focusing on how this will affect staff, the majority of whom are Prospect members," said Clancy.

"We will be meeting this week with both AMEC and Serco to discuss the impact on our members, including their terms and conditions and future pension arrangements."
