TUC seeks pledges to stand vigil for the NHS

The TUC is urging trade unionists and their families and friends to join a vigil for the NHS, to be held when MPs debate the third reading of Andrew Lansley's Health and Social Care Bill in the Commons.

This is a crucial step in the passage of any legislation, and a yes vote will move the controversial measures significantly closer to becoming law.

The government is being tight lipped on the timings for this bill, recognising its unpopularity with most of the population. It could be called at any point over the summer, with only a short time for the vigil to be organised.

But on that evening, as the health service faces its biggest shake-up since its creation in 1948, people across the country will be showing their concern by lighting candles for the NHS, in their windows at home, or as part of local vigils.

You can pledge here to light a candle on the evening of the debate. You will then automatically receive an email with more information when the date is announced.
