Public Eye reports on pensions and conference

A new issue of Public Eye for has been produced, reporting on this year's civil service sector conference in Bristol and providing an update on negotiations with the government over pension reform.

More than 140 delegates declared themselves ready to resist the government's cuts in public services and defend their pay, pensions and other hard-earned terms and conditions. There are reports of debates on pay, pensions, jobs, employment, campaigns and more.

The newsletter contains a report of the 27 June meeting between unions and ministers, where unions outlined a draft set of principles to guide forthcoming scheme-specific talks.

Prospect general secretary Paul Noon said: "On contribution rates, pension age and RPI-CPI, we set out the arguments clearly and unambiguously. We stressed in particular the injustice of seeking to compel public sector workers to pay higher contribution rates when pay is frozen and prices are rising sharply."

Copies of Public Eye will be posted, or email links sent to all Prospect members in the civil service sector. You can also download a PDF from the website's library.
