Workers’ Memorial Day: 28 April 2011

Workers’ Memorial Day: 28 April 2011

Prospect members are encouraged to get involved in events to mark Workers' Memorial Day on Thursday 28 April, or to organise events in their own workplaces. The purpose of the day is to “remember the dead: fight for the living.”

The key way to ensure that such tragedies are not repeated is by building trade union organisation, and campaigning for stricter enforcement with higher penalties for breaches of health & safety laws.

But unions, including Prospect, are also warning of the impact on injuries and deaths that will be caused by government cuts to the Health and Safety Executive and local authority resources.

Workers’ Memorial Day is commemorated throughout the world and is officially recognised by the UK government.

The TUC website has posted  ideas for what you can do on the day, as well as a list of dozens of events organised around the country.

Find out about events all over the UK here.
